In Memory of Kent Robert Wright

Kent Robert Wright

Our beloved Kent, 53, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer Monday, July 27, 2009. Kent was born and raised in San Luis Obispo and developed a lifelong passion for computer science at a very early age. He graduated from San Luis Obispo High School in 1974, then went on to obtain his degree at CSU San Diego. Kent dedicated his life to improving city infrastructure as a project leader for the City of San Diego and was instrumental in implementing the 911 system for the greater San Diego area. He became fluent in cutting-edge mapping technology that integrated various city departments, and consulted with many other metropolitan districts in their efforts to improve their cities. Known for his height (6'' 5"), Kent was an amazing ''gentle giant'' known for his great kindness and endless compassion. He was dearly loved by his family, many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. He will be greatly missed. Kent is survived by his wife, Shirley; their three sons Nick, Travis and Derek; five siblings Lynn, Mark, Kurt, Kye and Jennifer; along with his mother and stepfather, Shirley and Bob Burns. A beautiful memorial was held in Kent''s honor Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at Grace Point Church of San Diego. Kent left us very early but his legacy lives on in all of us that were touched by his amazing character.
